Have received an interesting article form Dr. Oscar Del Portal of particular
interest to the Medical Staff. Click here.
One of this week's story in the Emory University Newspaper, The Emory
Wheel, though slightly embellished by the reporter, highlights my role and that
of my immediate family, including 3 additional Emory Alums who worked feverishly
in conjunction with UHS to get Methodist Evacuated and re-supplied ASAP.

Why I have not seen it yet, the Op-Ed by Bob Herbert, the reporter that did the
earlier Methodist Katrina Story, interviewed Gail Siles, LPN, the nurse with
whom I have been associated in my private practice for 22 years, and her husband
Earl. Their heroism in rescuing approximately 100 individuals in St. Bernard
Parish on Monday AM of Katrina's visit was the focal point of the story
published Monday September 26. Will try to find link.
I am leaving in AM for New Orleans to assess property damage with adjustors and
contractors....Will not be able to update page for a few days...Plan a quick?
trip to hospital and will report on my return. Adios 4 now.

I am back in Atlanta after a 5 day trip to NO.. Going through "my stuff"
and seeing over 30 years of work and even more of family heirlooms being courted
and investigated by swarming flies was extremely depressing...even the Prozac
cookies didn't work. Have received increasing number of e-mails from medical and
hospital staff as well as patients. Please encourage everyone to write their
name when using the discussion group on the first page...everyone should try to
use this medium. Will try to update more tomorrow...in the mean time our
illustrious leader Dr. Jeff Coco has provided the following message from his
Presidential Palace in Alexandria:
Hi y’all, I would like to begin this with heartfelt “Awesome”. The staff of Methodist Hospital performed a difficult task under less than ideal conditions with grace and fortitude. I am proud to be associated with you all. Like you, I am finally starting to shake off the after effects of my Katrina experience and I am trying to put my life back in order. I never thought I’d be interviewing for a position again. The best guess on when the hospitals in N.O. East and Lakefront N.O. will be back in business in a meaningful way is 12-24 months. Bummer!!! If anyone needs references etc., contact me at jcoco1@cox.net .
Love and respect you all. Jeffrey Coco
